PASSOVER

(which is 8am-11am EST) This is the first day of Passover.

What better way to celebrate Passover than with your fellow intercessors and family on the Altar of Prayer? We are inviting you to participate, as together, we celebrate a Passover Seder Meal live on Friday, April 15 from 3-6pm Jerusalem time (first day of Passover) on AOP. We encourage you to bring your family and friends together for this important Feast. We have provided information for you to prepare a Seder in your home so we can all actively partake together as one body in Christ.

The Passover Seder Meal takes us through Israel’s Redemption from the Egyptians and Salvation from the Angel of death by means of the blood of the lamb before Israel made their Exodus (or Aliyah). Passover has its true fulfillment through Yeshua’s sacrifice for us as the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”  You will experience a new, powerful revelation of Jesus Christ through a Passover Seder. Join us to find out how all this is directly related to Aliyah (Exodus) today.

To prepare for this event we have put together a list of items below, needed for you to make ready for this Passover Seder. Since Seder means “order” we have provided a virtual Haggadah (order of service) to help you follow along with each important step. If you wish to enjoy a meal (breakfast, lunch or supper) with this Feast please feel free to include what you have prepared.

 

 “Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed.” 1 Corinthians 5:7

PASSOVER FEAST PREPARATIONS

 

TABLE SETTINGS

- Dinner plate

- Wine glass

- Water glass

- 2 Candles in the center

- Large Napkins to wrap Matzah

Grape juice or wine is drunk four separate times throughout the evening so plan 8 - 12 oz. per person.

In addition, each table will have the Seder elements (Seder Plate) which consist of 6 different items:

- Hard boiled eggs, one for each person

- Dried shank bone of a lamb (if available) 

- Horse radish - small but full bowl

- Parsley - small bowl (2-3 sprigs per guest)

- Salt water - small bowl

- Charoset - apple mixture, small bowl but very full (recipe below)

These elements above all have meaning and will be explained throughout the meal.

 

PASSOVER (SEDER) PLATE

The Passover seder is one of the most widely observed of all Jewish customs, and at the center of every seder is a seder plate. Most seder plates have six dishes for the six symbols of the Passover seder. You can get plastic seder plates at “party shops” or just use a platter with small individual dishes.

The seder elements are:

· MAROR (bitter herbs)

· KARPAS (vegetable)

· CHAZERET (bitter vegetable)

· CHAROSET (apple, nut, spice and wine mixture)

· ZEROA (shank bone)

· BEITZAH (hardboiled egg)

HAND WASHING BOWL

This is a very meaningful part of the Seder. Have a bowl, full water pitcher and towel and wash each ones’ hands.

MATZAH - UNLEAVENED BREAD

You can buy this at some grocery stores or check with your local Jewish Synagogue in town; it's a great way to introduce yourself to the local Jewish Community. Matzah Recipe below if needed.

You will need six pieces per table. Arrange three pieces on the table.

The matzah should be plain and unsalted: “Kosher for Passover.”

 

RECIPES:

 

HOMEMADE MATZAH

- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 cup whole-wheat flour

- Spring water

Preheat oven to 450F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix two flours together and add water until you have a soft, kneadable dough. Knead about five minutes. Let dough rest a couple of minutes.

Break off egg-sized portions of dough. Stretch as thinly as you can before rolling into thin, oval slabs that are as thin as possible. Prick each slab with a fork. Place on baking sheet and bake until crisp and buckled, about 3 minutes.

 

CHAROSET - THE " MORTAR"

- 4-5 apples

- 1 cup chopped almonds, pecans or walnuts (optional)

- 2 tsp. cinnamon

- 4-6tbsp. sweet red wine or sweet grape juice

- 2-3 tsp honey

 

Peel and grate apples. Add nuts, cinnamon, wine, and honey to bind. Stir. Ready to serve; can make ahead and store overnight. Serves 5-6 people. Make in quantity for a large group.

ADDITIONAL MENU POSSIBILITIES - OPTIONAL

 

MATZO BALL SOUP

 

First make a chicken broth flavored soup with onion; to this you add Matzo balls.

You can buy a box of Manischewitz Matzo meal and simply follow the directions on the box. Allow 2-3 Matzo's per serving. Make your matzos ahead; they take time to make.

ROASTED LAMB

 

- Cubed Lamb - 4 oz per guest

- White wine

- fresh mint

- salt & pepper

 

Marinate lamb for 1 hour in wine, mint, salt & pepper. Layer on baking trays & roast at 350 degrees F. for 45 minutes or until done.

Serve in casserole dishes garnished with fresh mint.

 

HERB CHICKEN

 

1 1/2 pieces per guest on greased, lined baking trays, layer chicken pieces, seasoned with seasoning salt & poultry seasoning.

Roast at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Serve on platter with garnish.

 

POTATOES

 

- potatoes, medium size and peeled

- water

- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine

- 1 Tbsp. cooking oil of choice

- salt & pepper sprinkled

- paprika

 

Boil potatoes in water for 10 minutes, drain

Heat butter and cooking oil in casserole or small roaster large enough to hold potatoes in single layer.

Place potatoes in pan, turning once to coat with butter mixture, sprinkle with salt and pepper and paprika. Cover. Bake at 375 degree F. (190 degree C.) for 45 minutes; serves 6.

TABBOULEH SALAD

A salad of cracked wheat, vegetables & Herb's

 

- 1 1/2 cup bulgur/cracked wheat

- 2 cups chopped fresh parsley

- 2 Tbsp. chopped mint

- 1 cucumber, diced

- 1 bell pepper

- 1 onion/6scallions, diced

- 2 large tomatoes, diced small

- grated rind of 1 lemon

- juice of 2 lemons 1/3 - 1/2 cup

- 1/3 cup/80 ml olive oil

- salt & pepper to taste

- tsp. cumin

 

Soak the bulgur/cracked wheat in cold water for 30 minutes, then drain in a fine sieve, draining well. In a salad bowl, combine all ingredients.

Refrigerate for at least one hour prior to serving.
